Sergey Shekhovtsov "Short Cut"

The exhibition catalogue was designed to resemble a men's magazine, following all the rules and requirements of a modern-day periodical. It has a page listing all the contributors, including Valentin Diakonov, Ekaterina Allenova and more. It has advertisements of made-up brands, such as Maston Artin cars and the WasterCard payment system, while also featuring spreads with scantily clad girls inspired by the artist's series "Pin UP." This new men's magazine is titled "Foam," alluding to the sculptor's media of choice – Styrofoam and foam rubber.

The editor-in-chief, art director and the author of the majority of articles, Sergey Khripun divided the catalogue into several blocks, normally seen in a men's periodical. Thus, the Politics section deals with Shekhovtsov's 2010 large-scale installation "Throne"; the Infographic section is a tongue-in-cheek set of statistics on the Russian-British economic relations illustrated with the sculptor's works "Escape" and "Kremlin"; while the traditional story of a famous person features Faina Balakhovskaya's interview with the sculptor.

The catalogue was published with the assistance of XL Projects.
